Industrial Deafness

Industrial deafness is caused by the prolonged exposure to industrial noise during the workers employment. If you have worked in a noisy environment after 1963 without the provision of ear protection and are now suffering with hearing problems (either noise, ringing in the ears or deafness) then you may be able to claim compensation.

Who are most likely to be effected?

The most common workers to suffer with hearing problems are those working with large production machinery such as drilling, quarrying and metal work and noisy machinery as used in textiles, agricultural, printing and transportation industry.

What are the symptoms for industrial deafness?

The symptoms will often vary depending on the individual and the exposure to the industrial noise. Some people will have difficulty hearing specific words and words may become muted or muffled. It is also often more difficult to hear people speaking when there is other background noise. Those suffering will often speak louder because they are not able to hear their own voice. In some cases a constant ringing in the ears will be present making it difficult to concentrate or sleep.
